Balsam plants, a native to Southeast Asia, but are grown in different parts of the world. Balsam plants are grown for ornamental as well as for therapeutic purposes. The juice extracted from its leaves is used for treating snakebites and crushed flowers are applied on burns... outdoor but with partial shade or shade from the afternoon. Indoors but with half sunlight. Blooms all year round. Easy to grow on seeds and easy to germinate. You can either sow it directly on ground, if weather permits, or you can start indoors. Keep the soil moist so that the seeds germinate within a week or two. It is not necessary to cover the seeds with soil as exposure to light leads to faster germination but press them firmly on the potting soil. Cover the peat pots with a clear plastic to help hold moisture around the seeds. Affix the plastic to the nursery tray on 3 sides leaving the fourth side open to let excess moisture to escape. Check the potting soil's moisture level every other day. Spray water on each peat pot until the soil is moist but not sopping wet in the top inch. Put the clear plastic back after watering. Remove the plastic 5-7 days after the seed germinates.
