The timing of insemination is a critical factor because of the variation in the time of ovulation among individual sows. Eggs have only a life of 6 to 8 hrs and sperm 24hrs inside the fallopian tube. Sperm should be in the female reproductive tract (utero tubal junction) 6 -12 hrs before ovulation. How do we ensure a high level of fertilization. Common industry practice is: Sows are inseminated 12 - 24 after the onset of standing heat and again 12 hrs later using 2 or 3 semen doses per estrus.

Accurate timing is based on precise heat detection. To carry out good heat detection requires a lot of skills and familiarization. The question when to exactly inseminate a sow once detected in standing heat will be discussed in the seminar. How is a correct insemination procedure done? How do we reduce monthly breeding fallouts especially reheats? Estrus control, timing of insemination, number of inseminations and AI procedure all require some knowledge of swine reproductive physiology.

Breeding practices in different piggery farms vary so breeding performance also varies. Science and experience must combine to produce superior results. Based on the PSIRDFI monitoring, not many farms in the Phillipines could achieve farrowing rate of 90% and up. Only a few. A good farrowing rate should start at 85%. Today we talk of 93% farrowing rate and that is possible only when breeding management is correct. Farrowing rate has a 70% impact on sow productivity (measured in terms of pigs produced per sow per year), litter size 25% impact and mortality only 5% impact. The factors that affect farrowing rate also affect litter size.

Breeding seminars of this kind are rare. First, it is required that the breeding specialist himself conducting the seminar has achieved a farrowing rate of 90% or higher to make the seminar credible. The training sessions will focus on heat detection, timing of insemination and the insemination process. This is a specialty breeding seminar designed at the Technician level.

Registration fee does not include accomodation. It includes only meals and snacks plus kits. Hotel accomodation is shouldered by individual participants coming from outside metro manila. There are hotels in the vicinity of pioneer center like Ace hotel, Legend hotel, Red planet hotel and Privato hotel. Pioneer center is just along side Greenfields Mandaluyong and Ortigas center. Pioneer center has many business establishments that give a pleasant evening relaxation. At the same time it has spacious parking area.

We will be strict with the time. Participants are encouraged to come before 8am. Remember you come to learn and to deliver results to your farm.
