It has the idealized formula [CH2CH(OH)]n. It is used in papermaking, textiles, and a variety of coatings. It is white (colourless) and odorless.

Polyvinyl Alcohol Grade BP-24 is a water-soluble polymer and provided as granule or powder form.

POVAL or Polyvinyl alcohol is used in a variety of fields because of its excellent properties such as water-solubility, adhesion strength, mechanical strength, gas barrier and aging resistance.

Polyvinyl Alcohol is made from vinyl acetate monomer through polymerization and saponification processes.


There are many grades available in the market according to different degrees of polymerization and hydrolysis, which are controlled in the polymerization and the saponification processes respectively.


Dissolving Procedure
The following procedure is recommended to dissolve Polyvinyl Alcohol or POVAL.
1. Feed water into a tank at ******t temperature (Water temperature should not be so high in order to avoid agglomeration.).

2. Feed POVAL gradually into the water with agitation and disperse it sufficiently. ?Especially low hydrolyzed grade should be taken care of.

3. Heat up with continuous agitation and dissolve the POVAL. More than 90 degree-C for minimum 30 minutes is recommended.

4. Add water to adjust the concentration after complete dissolution of POVAL. Actual concentration should be measured due to the water contained in POVAL.

5.If the grade has clouding point, cool down the temperature under the clouding point before use. Especially low hydrolyzed grade should be taken care of.

• As a film used in the water transfer printing process

• As a form release because materials such as epoxy do not stick to it

• Movie practical effect and children's play putty or slime when combined with borax

• Used in eye drops (such as artificial tears to treat dry eyes) and hard contact lens solution as a lubricant

• PVA fiber, as reinforcement in concrete

• Raw material to polyvinyl nitrate (PVN) an ester of nitric acid and polyvinyl alcohol.
